The Orthodox Christians following the Julian calendar on May 22 observe the translation of the relics of Saint Nicholas from Mira in Turkey to Bari in Italy. This feast is called Saint Nicholas of summer because in winter, on December 19, it is celebrated the transfer of Nicholas of Mira to God’s Kingdom, IPN reports.
Saint Nicholas was a historic 4th-century Christian saint and Greek Bishop of Myra, in Asia Minor. Because of the many miracles attributed to his intercession, he is also known as Nicolas the Wonderworker.
Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of sailors, merchants, archers, repentant thieves, children, brewers, pawnbrokers and students in various cities and countries around Europe. He was born in the Mediterranean port Patara in Anatolia in 240 and lived 102 years.
