The Orhei District Hospital managed to reduce its expenses for the maternity ward by 30%, due to an energy efficiency project. The administration of the hospital intends to implement similar projects for another two wards, using financial support from foreign donors, as well as from Moldovan authorities, reports Info-Prim Neo. Head of the hospital Elena Palanciuc stated that the feasibility test was done with the help of the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ), and a series of measures for energy efficiency were implemented with the help of several donors: the roof was changed, the ward’s walls were thermally isolated, and the windows were changed. Additionally, the internal water networks were changed, a new heating station was installed, and solar panels were installed on the roof, for the heating of water for household use. “We are glad that, due to this project, we managed to considerably save on energy”, noted Elena Palanciuc. Deputy Head of the German Embassy to Chisinau Carsten Wilms stated, during a visit to the Orhei Hospital, that energy efficiency is an important factor, which allows saving financial resources. Constatin Enciu, a consultant within the GIZ project titled “The Modernization of Local Public Services”, and the one responsible for the project implemented at the Orhei Hospital, stated that the first part of the investments was allocated for the feasibility test, and the change of windows, whereas the rest of the money will be used for installing an intelligent energy consumption monitoring system. Likewise, additional finances will be allocated for applying the same measures to other wards within the hospital. The project was implemented with the financial support of Moldova’s Social Investments Fund, the German Government, through the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) and the Regional Development Agency’s Center division, with the support of National Company for Social Insurances and the Orhei District Council. The total value of the project is about 35 million lei.
