Organic farming operators are obliged to register their activities with the National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA), according to the Regulation on Organic Products that entered into force on January 1, IPN reports.
The regulation on establishing rules on controls and other measures to ensure traceability and compliance in organic production and labeling of organic products comes to implement Law No. 237 of 2023 on organic production and labeling of organic products.
Contacted by IPN, the head of the non-animal food safety directorate within ANSA, Marina Dintiu, said that it is a law that has been worked on for several years. The law transposes a 2018 EU regulation on organic production and labeling of organic products. With the entry into force of this law, the National Agency for Food Safety is established as the control authority in the field of organic farming, a responsibility the agency did not have until now.
Marina Dintiu continued that, on January 1, 2025, a regulation came into force requiring organic farming operators to register their activity with the National Agency for Food Safety and to notify their activity annually by submitting their record sheets to the agency. Previously, these records were submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, which was the competent authority in the field of organic farming, Marina Dintiu explained.
The head of the Directorate expressed her confidence that these changes will have a positive impact on operators and will increase the confidence of EU countries and other states in Moldova's organic products. Moldova will thus be able to export to more European countries. Dintiu believes that, with these changes, organic farming will be promoted more widely, including in Moldova.
The new regulation covers all operators or groups of operators producing, processing, distributing, storing, importing, exporting and/or marketing organic products in the Republic of Moldova or abroad.
The operator or group of operators can submit the registration forms for the year 2025 in paper format to the postal address: Mihail Kogalniceanu Street, 63, MD-2009, Chisinau municipality, or by electronic mail, info@ansa.gov.md.
