Orange code advisory for snow covering entire Moldova

The orange code advisory for snow and bad weather for southern and central Moldova that was issued on February 3 was extended to cover the northern districts too. The people are advised not to go on trips if only it is strictly necessary. If they set off, they should take food, warm drinks and clothes with them and should make sure the telephone battery is charged so as to be able to seek help if need be, IPN reports.

According to the State Hydrometeorological Service, there will be sleet and snowfalls, in parts heavy. Layers of snow and ice will form on utility cables and tree branches in parts. There will be snowdrifts and ice on the roads. The wind will intensify to 18-23 meters per second. On February 6 and 7, the average daytime temperatures are forecast to decrease by 5 – 7 degrees Celsius.

The local education authorities and managers of educational institutions will maintain an optimal thermal regime in classrooms.

The drivers, especially those of school buses, are warned to appropriately equip the vehicles and to have sand, chains and a shovel in the trunk.
