Only a depoliticized prosecution service can shed light on April 7, 2009 events, opinions

Only a depoliticized prosecution service and prosecutor can cast light on the April 7, 2009 events, consider persons who took part in those protests or who had relatives among the protesters. In the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channeled Moldova 1, they said that April 7, 2009 is a black spot on Moldova, IPN reports.

Tudor Darie, managing director of Interakt Media Company, said the day of April 7 is treated differently. On the one hand, it is a freedom day because the Communists were removed, but it was also a day of shame as the young people who struggled for an ideal were tortured by the police on the night of April 8.

According to Tudor Darie, the truth about April 7 will never be discovered because the Prosecutor’s Office in 2009 didn’t want it to be revealed. The evidence was destroyed and cannot be restored after several years. The current Prosecutor’s Office also does not want the truth to come out. Tudor Darie said in 2011 he repeatedly asked former Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubco to provide information about the April 7, 2009 case, but wasn’t heard.

Tudor Darie said that according to his information the Presidency blocked the Internet during those April days. He also said that the young people who went out to protest wanted veritable democracy and an independent prosecution service and justice. But this wasn’t ensured. “The prosecutor should not be named according to political criteria. A mechanism must be worked out so that the prosecutor is chosen from among the prosecutors,” stated the former consultant of acting Prime Minister Vlad Filat.

Liberal-Democratic MP Ion Butmalai said the judges who tried the protesters in police stations continue to work. He considers the law enforcement bodies should be depoliticized and they should be managed by professionals selected by contest.

Natalia Molosag, lawyer who defended a number of young people in April 2009, said there are cases that gather dust because the prosecution bodies didn’t bother to collect evidence to prove the guilt of the police officers who ill-treated young people.

Thousands of young people took part in the protests in central Chisinau on April 7, 2009. They expressed their dissatisfaction with the outcome of the April 5 parliamentary elections that were won by the Communists. The protests degenerated into rioting and hundreds of protesters were arrested, ill-treated and tried in police commissariats.
