Only 17% of Moldovans are satisfied with their life, poll

The low salaries and pensions, high prices, poverty and corruption are the main problems about which the Moldovans are concerned. Only 8% of the respondents of a poll consider things in the country go well. Some 3% are dissatisfied with the economic situation and only 17% are dissatisfied with their life. The Moldovans would stay in the country for a salary of 10,000 lei a month. This is almost twice more than the current official salary. These are the results of a national poll commissioned by the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Viitorul”, IPN reports.

The church is trusted by 62% of those polled, while the political parties and the key state institutions, such as the Government, Parliament and the law enforcement agencies, are rusted the least. Compared with the first half of this year, the level of confidence in the presidential administration has decreased.

According to sociologist Vasile Cantarji, the rankings of the most popular politicians are headed by President Igor Dodon with 32.4% and Maia Sandu with 17.8%. Their ratings decreased compared with the figures at the start of 2017 owing to the answers of the respondents who trust no one. As in the case of parties, none of the political leaders witnessed improvements in their popular approval ratings compared from the previous polls.

If parliamentary elections were held, 68% of the respondents would take part in these. Each fourth respondent would vote for the PSRM, 12.2% for the PAS, 3.1% for the PDM, 2.9% for the PPPDA, 2.3% for the PCRM and 2.0% for the PPPN. The other parties would poll less than 1%. On the other hand, 14.9% of those surveyed said they would not vote, while 34.3% are undecided.

63.3% of the respondents consider their children can distinguish themselves best abroad. “Viitorul” expert Veaceslav Ionita said preconditions appear for a new wave of emigration, determined by the non-competitive offers on the local labor market, such as low salaries, salaries paid illegality, instability, the problematic business environment, etc.

“The first emigration waves in the 1990s involved the resident rural population and multiple small towns, but now the emigration tendency is especially pronounced in Balti municipality, where each third inhabitant intends to go abroad. We consider that this wave will embrace the population of the large cities – Balti and Chisinau – for which the intention to leave the country is a plan for the immediate future,” stated Veaceslav Ionita.

As regards foreign assistance, over one third of the surveyed Moldovans said the EU helps the Republic of Moldova the most. Russia comes next with 29.2%, being followed by Romania with 25.8%.

The survey covered a sample of 1,109 persons and was carried out during September 9 – 20. The margin of sampling errors is plus, minus 2.8%.
