One of the men who killed a businesswoman living in Chisinau’s Ciocana district over two years ago was sentenced to life by a judgment of the Chisinau Appeals Court. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, initially the man got 25 years, but the prosecutors challenged the sentence and won the case. The judgments against the other two culprits were upheld. These will serve 12 and 14 years in jail, IPN reports.
The men aged between 33 and 35 were arrested on charges of deliberate murder, robbery and illegal keeping of firearms in January 2014. Besides being jailed, these were also obliged to pay 368,000 lei in respect of pecuniary and non-pecuniary damage to the successor of the injured party.
The crime was committed in the evening of December 16, 2013. The offenders waited for the women on the stairs of the building where she lived with the aim of dispossessing her of bag. They planned the offense beforehand and knew that the victim collected money from the fish selling units that she owned in the evening.
As the woman put up resistance, the attackers stabbed her in the chest. The victim aged 35 died on the spot.
According to prosecutors, there were money, golden jewels and other precious things to the value of over 93,000 lei in the woman’s bag. The offenders divided these between them and used them for personal purposes.
