The European Action Movement (MAE) condemns the education policy of the present government, calling it an anti-European, anti-people policy. MAE disapproves of reducing the number of payed places in universities, the admittance modality and the liquidation of the non-attending sections at a series of faculties, Info-Prim Neo reports. MAE's deputy president, professor Igor Bercu, told a news conference on Thursday that the number of contract-based places was severely reduced this year for the most popular specialties: economy, law, medicine, foreign languages, etc., what stressed not only the candidates, but their parents, too. The average mark to enter these faculties is above 9.0. The fact that the average mark has been computed only from the marks got at the baccalaureate exams makes angry many high school students, since a good mark can be obtained including by offering bribes at those exams only, hinted the MAE's vice president. The present government seems to forcefully promote the principle “we don't want value, every body on a tractor” and this cannot be accepted by the modern society, says Igor Bercu. Reducing the payed places will severely strike the universities' budgets, as their professors receive miserable wages. Most of the youths failing to enter a faculty will leave for abroad, as the number of teachers will be severely slashed. MAE is concerned with reducing the number of non-attendance sections at a series of faculties, including teachers' training ones. “As a rule the non-attendance sections enroll working alumni. But personal and collective notifications sent to the President, the Government, the Education Ministry have not been returned,” Igor Bercu says. MAE wants that the baccalaureate exams be taken in the lycees where the students have studied, as the average mark should computed on the basis of all the marks received. The party wants the state to observe the universities' autonomy, including in terms of admittance procedures. On August 16, MAE will meet university professors to discussing about correlating the university education to European standards and the remuneration. According to the MAE's president, professor Anatol Petrencu, the professor will set up a committee to negotiate with the Government. He has not ruled the professors may decide not to start the scholar year on September 1. The Government's education policy has been earlier criticized by the Liberal and Liberal Democratic Parties.
