One more member of Borman group arrested

A member of the criminal organization Borman was arrested during a special operation performed by the Border Guards Service of Ukraine in concert with officers of the National Investigations Inspectorate. This is 46 and is a citizen of the Republic of Moldova, native of Telenești town. The operation was conducted at the request of the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, it transmitted letters rogatory to the competent authorities of Ukraine so as to carry out searches at a number of addresses of the suspect. The arrested man forms part of the Borman group whose role was to manage the transportation of drugs from Spain to Russia.

On January 21, the special services of the Border Police of Ukraine and employees of the National Investigations Inspectorate conducted a number of searches in Odessa city. The Odessa Court issued a warrant for the arrest of the suspect for a period of 40 days with subsequent extradition.

The leader of the organization and a group of accomplices were arrested in October 2017. At the end of last June, the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases completed the investigation and sent the case to court. The arrested were charged with creation and management of a criminal organization, trafficking in drugs and money laundering starting with 2012. The group members are suspected of taking drugs to Russia and of earning at least 20 million lei as a result. These are also accused of laundering the money earned from selling drugs in Russia, with which they bought tangible and and intangible assets worth over 8 million lei.
