Oncology Institute aims to modernize 16 surgical wards

A Romanian company is designing a project to fully renovate 16 surgical wards of the Chisinau Oncology Institute and to outfit them with modern surgical equipment.

Contacted by IPN, the Institute’s director Victor Cernat said the works will start when the necessary financial resources are identified. An estimated 43 million lei is needed for the purpose.

A number of walls will be demolished. Walls from special materials intended for surgery rooms will be erected instead of them. Soon the Oncology Institute will submit the financing project to the National Health Insurance Company. A financing variant is to establish a public-private partnership involving investors from Moldova and the EU.

Victor Cernat said the new surgical wards will enable to perform the same kinds of operations for grownups and children as in the EU. “Oncological surgery is special and difficult. The new surgical equipment will allow us to perform all the oncological operations possible,” he added.

Endoscopic surgeries for all types of cancer will be performed at the Chisinau Oncology Institute. 100 surgeons already received training in a number of medical institutions in Germany, Italy, Romania and Russia and are ready to operate with modern instruments.
