Members of the Civic Platform “Honor, Dignity and Motherland” staged a demonstration in front of the Parliament Building on the Day of the Constitution. They brought placards and a tricolor that was about 15 meters long with them, chanting ‘Romanian language is the only master’, IPN reports.

The organization’s head Vlad Biletski said that this way they want to sensitize the MPs to the need to include the phrase ‘Romanian language’ in the Constitution instead of ’Moldovan language’. “We demand immediately amending Article 13 of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, in accordance with the decision of the Constitutional Court,” he stated.

Article 13 of the Constitution, which provides that the Moldovan language is the official language of the Republic of Moldova, has been often disputed. On December 5, 2013, the Constitutional Court decided that the Declaration of Independence, which stipulates that the Romanian language is the official language of Moldova, prevails over the text of the Constitution.
