From February 2025, all household consumers will benefit from compensations for electricity, included directly in bills that will be received in March for February. This is provided in a draft decision that was approved by the Cabinet, IPN reports.
In a press conference held after the executive’s meeting, Minister of Labor and Social Protection Alexei Buzu said that the financial support is provided with the assistance of the European Union to households across the country to mitigate the impact of the increase in electricity charges.
The compensations will cover the difference between the regulated price and the reference price up to a maximum ceiling of 1.84 lei/kWh, applicable to the amount of energy consumed monthly, which will not exceed the limit of 110 kWh for a place of consumption.
Alexei Buzu also said that energy suppliers will monthly calculate the amount compensated from the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund for each residential consumer and in the issued bills they will indicate the total cost of electricity supplied, the amount of compensation granted and the final amount that the consumer must pay after applying the compensation.
"Compensation for electricity is universal for all families in the Republic of Moldova. We will cover the February-December 2025 consumption period with on-bill compensation. At the same time, the Government will cover the increase in charges for the first 110 kWh consumed each month for all families," added the minister.
According to him, the 710,000 families who registered in the "Help on Meter" program and already benefit from monetary compensations for heat are to receive compensations for February and March. The next compensations will be offered starting with March 10.
