Minister of Justice Olesea Stamate says that many representatives of the prosecution system do not want system change, thus are engaged in ongoing resistance. However, there is a party that would like this system to become clean, independent, impartial and fair.
System representatives do not immediately respond to changes. "Things cannot happen in a day or two, after the appointment of a new person in office. I would very much like to see how the new interim prosecutor general will deal with his tasks" said Olesea Stamate during TV8’s show "Cutia Neagră".
The minister of justice added that a bill amending the prosecutor general selection procedure has been registered in Parliament. In particular, it will eliminate the five years of work experience condition inside the prosecution system, in order to open "the gateway for candidates outside the system".
The minister said that a bill which aims to revision the prerogatives of the Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office and, possibly, of the National Anti-corruption Center, will be introduced in Parliament. This exercise, says Olesea Stamate, will involve the prosecutors activity evaluation and will start with leadership, in particular, APO and PCCOCS leadership.
Olesea Stamate wants to introduce another draft law which reduces the powers of the Supreme Court of Justice, reduces the number of judges to 17 and reduces their term of office. "A commission that evaluates wealth-interests and professional activity will be created in autumn. The plan is to have a new configuration of the SCJ at the beginning of 2020 and judges who will not pass the evaluation, shall no longer be part of the new configuration”, said Olesea Stamate.
