Vice president of the Party of Action and Solidarity Olesea Stamate said President Maia Sandu’s decision to request the Superior Council of Prosecutors to intiate the procedure for assessing Alexandr Stoianoglo’s work was made now because the criminal case featuring the suspended prosecutor genera can last too long. The assessment of Stoianoglo’s work and his investigation are two parallel processes, IPN reports.
On November 11, the Superior Council of Prosecutors allowed to start the assessment of Alexandr Stoianoglo’s job as prosecutor general. A special assessment commission is to be set up.
“This case can last rather log. There are cases that last for five-seven years and this is serious. His assessment will not center on the accusations made against him. The commission will assess the managerial activity of the prosecutor general and his accomplishments. The fact that Stoianoglo is under investigation does not bear relation to the assessment,” Olesea Stamate stated in the talk show “The Fourth Estate” on N4 TV channel.
The head of the Parliament’s commission for appointments and immunities said Alexandr Stoianogo will be questioned as part of the assessment procedure. If his case is not sent to court and the assessment commission finds Stoianoglo’s work to be irreproachable, this will return to his post. The assessment commission will work out a methodology for conducting the assessment and will then report to the Superior Council of Prosecutors.
Alexandr Stoianoglo, who is suspended from office while under investigation on charges of abuse of office, perjury and facilitation of crime committed in 2011 when he sat in Moldova’s Parliament and in 2021 when holding office of prosecutor general, is under house arrest. Stoianoglo denies any wrongdoing.
