Moldovan weightlifter Oleg Sirghi has won a gold medal in the European Weightlifting Championships held in Albania. He emerged victorious in the 56kg class with the total result of 261 kg.
In snatch, the 25-year-old athlete ranked second with the result of 116 kg, but in clean and jerk he lifted 145 kg and won thus a European title. This is his second continental title in his career, after that won in 2011. Last year, Oleg Sirghi became European vice champion.
Another two highly-ranked Moldovan weightlifters - Igor Bour and Ghenadie Dudoglo - will ether the contest on April 9, in the 62kg class. The leaders of the national squad Cristina Iovu and Anatol Ciricu, who medaled bronze at the London Olympics, do not take part in the competition.
