At the end of January, the official reserve assets amounted to US$5.395,41 billion, down US$57.73 million on December 29, 2023, when they totaled US$5.453,14 billion, IPN reports.
The National Bank of Moldova said that the depreciation of exchange rates of currencies that are components of the foreign exchange reserves against the U.S. dollar (-US$44.07m) was one of the factors that led to a decline in the official reserve assets. The decrease was also influenced by payments made to service Moldova’s external public debt in the amount of US$35.81 million.
During the reporting period, the increase in the official reserve assets was influenced by the revenues from foreign exchange reserve management in the amount of US$18.17 million. There were also interventions in the domestic foreign exchange market in the form of purchases of foreign currency to the value of US$10.00 million.
At the end of December 2023, the official reserve assets came to US$5.453,14 billion, up US$293.43 million compared to November 30.
