Of the total energy consumed in Moldova, 40% is attributed to the residential sector.

Energy consumption in the Republic of Moldova is significantly higher compared to other European countries. One of the reasons is the energy inefficiency of residential buildings. At a roundtable discussion, Andrei Gritco, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy, stated that heating buildings in Moldova requires approximately 50% more energy than the average in European Union countries, IPN reports.

"We need to make consumption more efficient, starting with reducing energy usage for heating buildings", said Andrei Gritco.

The residential sector consumes about 40% of the total energy resources. Authorities have established an Energy Efficiency Fund and aim to change the situation.

"We aim to provide annual support to the residential sector from this fund. In certain cases, we are talking about investments of 50%, and in other cases even 70%, to improve the energy efficiency of residential buildings, thereby reducing utility bills for the population," the official added.

Additionally, authorities plan for approximately 30% of the energy consumed in Moldova to be renewable energy produced domestically by 2030. Currently, this rate stands at 10%-12%.

"Of course, this doesn't mean that by 2030 we plan to rely solely on wind turbines or photovoltaic panels, but we aim to achieve this goal by promoting both energy generation and conservation", added Andrei Gritco, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy.
