Octavian Ţîcu: Chisinau needs new urban development strategy

Octavian Ţîcu, the National Unity Party candidate for Chisinau mayor, says that a new urban development strategy is needed. The candidate told a press conference  that this goal will be a top priority if he becomes general mayor of Chisinau municipality, reports IPN.

According to the candidate, one of the biggest problems in post-1991 Chisinau is the lack of an urban identity. The mayors, especially those who followed after Nicolae Costin, did not consider a general, zoning and detail urban planning. As a result, Chisinau is a quite chaotic city and in different districts and neighborhoods, even monstrous, says Octavian Ţîcu.

“Today, due to a lack of this comprehensive approach, we have about 500 unauthorized constructions throughout Chisinau. These things happened after the year of 2009, when the real estate mafia grew, supported by officials from the City Hall”, said the National Unity Party candidate.

Octavian Ţîcu also said that the city “should not grow on the inside, at the cost of green spaces, playgrounds or sport fields. It is necessary to expand the city at the expense of the outskirts and the suburbs that offer such opportunities,” said the candidate.
