Octavian Calmac: Chisinau could be connected to Romanian gas in 2019

A delegation from Romania will come to Chisinau on May 15 to work out a roadmap for the interconnection of the energy systems of Moldova and Romania, Minister of Economy Octavian Calmac, Deputy Prime Minister, stated in the program “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.

According to Calmac, during his visit to Romania last week, he discussed the energy interconnection projects with his Romanian counterpart.

The minister noted that the construction of the Iasi-Chisinau gas pipeline is expected to be finished in 2019 and there are the necessary funds for the purpose. But the interconnection to the power lines is a more complex issue. “We need €250 million to connect our electric power networks to Romania’s, but we do not have this money. We must identify financial resources. To make this interconnection possible, we need a power station and two Vulcanesti-Chisinau high-voltage power lines,” said Octavian Calmac.

He also said that if financial resources are identified, the connection to Romania’s high-voltage power lines could take place in 2020.
