Politician Oazu Nantoi is urging the leaders of the Dignity and Truth Platform Party, the Action and Solidarity Party, and the Liberal Democratic Party to return to the negotiation table and nominate a common presidential candidate.
“The simultaneous entry into race of Ms Maia Sandu and Mr Andrei Nastase as separate candidates could confuse and discourage the people. Moreover, the promise to take a final decision on a common presidential candidate, to be selected between the two 'at the appropriate time', means the competition between their parties will continue, with the risk that this common candidate might never be selected at all”, Oazu Nantoi told a press conference on Friday.
He sees this solved in two ways: either a nominee is chosen between Sandu and Nastase, or an alternative candidate is identified that enjoys high public esteem.
Oazu Nantoi thinks that the most effective scenario “for mobilizing our society in order to retrieve the country out of captivity” is for the anti-oligarch parties to nominate a common presidential candidate as well as participate as a united bloc in the legislative elections, which he considers are imminent after the presidential ballot.
Nantoi thinks the next president should be combative and be able to fight with “the cynicism, corruption and hypocrisy of those who have usurped power”.
As concerns his future political plans, Oazu Nantoi said has no intention of running independently for president.
