Oazu Nantoi announced his intention to run in the January 15 presidential elections. In a news conference on Wednesday, he said he would contact the leaders of the parliamentary groups in order to secure support from the MPs, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I am an apolitical person. I do not run any business. My intention is to be the President of everyone. I wish to be above the parliamentary parties’ competition and will not play the political games of any of the parties,” Oazu Nantoi promised during the news conference. Oazu Nantoi said both the lawmakers of the ruling alliance and the Communists, as well as the group of Socialists, have reasons to support him. “The problem does not reside in Nantoi being a President, but in Moldova having a President and we, the people, having a stable government over four years,” Oazu Nantoi stated. “Provided that my candidacy is rejected, the AEI leaders will have to furnish explanations and field a better candidate, and elect the President on January 15, since we are all tired of this political slump,” Oazu Nantoi said. Before submitting his portfolio to the special committee for organizing the presidential elections, Oazu Nanoi needs to obtain the signatures of at least 15 lawmakers in his support, and will have to gain at least 61 votes of MP in order to be elected President. Oazu Nantoi is a political analyst, expert in the Transnistrian issue, program director at the Public Policy Institute. During March 2007 - July 2011, he had been a member of the Democratic Party of Moldova.
