The Labor Inspection (LI) will have only 10 territorial inspectorates, existing 35 that operated to date, and each inspectorate will be responsible for 4 districts. This fact is stipulated by a Government decision that envisages the structural reorganization of the Labor Inspection, a decision that came into force on November 1, 2006. The LI head Dumitru Stavila told Tuesday November 14 a briefing organized at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce that the staff of the 28 units of the central apparatus will be halved, while the territorial personnel - from 93 to 81 units. The LI reorganization will be performed in accordance with the provisions of the International Labor Organization that stipulate a labor inspector should supervise 20-40 thousand employees. The reorganization of the Labor Inspection will diminish the annual expenses 5-fold. Part of the money intended for this year will be used for purchasing computers, a fact that allows the inspection system to operate quicker. Since the beginning of the year, LI received over 1500 petitions from employees, about 90% of which have been confirmed. The petitions often claim that the salaries are not paid on time or lowered, and the work contracts are not legal.
