Number of members on broadcasting, competition watchdog agencies might be reduced

The number of the Audiovisual Council members is proposed to be reduced from nine to seven, and that of the Competition Council, from five to three. Two bills sponsored by ACUM/PAS lawmakers Sergiu Litvinenco, Igor Grosu and Radu Marian have been registered in the Parliament.

"For a long time, both institutions have served (and still serve!) exclusively the oligarchic regime to the detriment of the public interest," Sergiu Litvinenco wrote on Facebook.

Additionally, the drafts provide for the office term cessation of the current AC and CC directors and members, upon the moment of commencement. Also, the bills provide for the appointment of interims until new members are selected based on a merit system.

According to the legislative initiatives, the competition panels, which will select new members, will not consist of specialized parliamentary committee representatives, but of people from outside the political sphere, in order to ensure objectivity.
