NOW not participating in President Dodon’s consultations

NOW is refusing to participate in the round of consultations called by President Igor Dodon tomorrow, the bloc’s leaders told reporters at a briefing. Instead, in parallel, NOW is inviting “MPs not controlled by the oligarchic regime to constructive talks on how to improve, adopt and put into practice the de-oligarchization package proposed”.

NOW co-president Andrei Năstase read out a statement complaining about the “artificial protraction” of procedures to fully inaugurate the new parliament and which consequently delays debates over its proposed “de-oligarchization” legislation. NOW regards as suspicious that Parliament’s inaugural meeting was postponed indefinitely, with President announcing tripartite talks in the meantime.

NOW has reiterated that it will not participate in any consultations with the current leadership of the Democratic Party, which the bloc accuses of being a “clan responsible for capturing the state, pushing the country into international isolation and undermining the economy”.

“The de-oligarchization of the state institutions is the primordial condition for them to become functional again and for regaining the confidence of Moldovans”, declared NOW.

Maia Sandu, the other NOW co-president, suggested the Democratic Party leaders were not welcome to join the alternative talks. But, added Andrei Năstase, “we will be glad if MPs elected on the list of PDM and other parties could escape the political and corrupt control of Plahotniuc. Everyone interested to talk things that are important for the nation is welcome”, tomorrow, in Parliament’s office 114.
