Notary candidates complain of delay in license issuance

A group of aspirants to become notaries have accused the Ministry of Justice of delaying the issuance of their licenses, and have petitioned outgoing Minister Alexandru Tanase to solve their problem before he leaves the post to become a constitutional judge. The candidates convened a press conference on Wednesday to complain that, despite passing a set of exams almost four months ago, in December 2010, their licenses have not been issued so far. They also complained that before December 2010 such competitions for filling vacant notary posts had not been held for four years, despite a legal provision saying that these should be held twice a year. “We want to work. We ask the outgoing minister not to leave us in a total state of incertitude”, said Daniela Demenciuc, a candidate. “For four months the Ministry has done nothing to issue those licenses. This delay is obviously unjustified. And as a result, our rights are violated”, she added. The group, numbering 39 persons, will wait 30 more days for an answer from the Ministry before initiating a lawsuit. Minister Alexandru Tanase was not immediately available for comments.
