The candidate suggested by the Democratic Party for the post of director of the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS), Vasile Botnari, was fielded in the context of the parliamentary elections that will take place this year. At the same time, the nomination of Vasile Botnari was unexpected. The issue was developed in the talk show “Expertise hour” on Jurnal TV channel, IPN reports.
Liberal MP Lilian Carp said a person close to the Democratic leader Vladimir Plahotniuc was chosen. This is a fully trusted person. Vasile Botnari served as minister of information and communication technology and the appearance of a Big Brother law in Parliament will not be surprise. This way, anyone could be monitored in the election campaign. “There are a number of elements that led to the designation of Vasile Botnari, especially because this candidate hasn’t been discussed in the public sphere earlier,” stated Lilian Carp.
Analyst Oazu Nantoi wondered why the former SIS director Vitalie Parlog left the post even if he was fielded by the same party. As to Vasile Botnari, the analyst said the parliamentary elections are coming and the Democrats thus provided a candidate for SIS director who is very close to them. But nothing was violated from formal viewpoint.
Ex-MP Stela Jantuan said the nomination of Vasile Botnari to the post of SIS director matches the style of the administration of the Democratic Party. “To my mind, this nomination shows that the circle of untrustworthy persons of the Democratic leaders is expanding, while the circle of trustworthy persons is narrowing. This is an extreme solution and that’s why it appeared so swiftly. I admit that this was unexpected, including for Vasile Botnari,” stated Stela Jantuan. According to her, another curious question is who will replace Botnari as manager of MoldovaGaz.
The Parliament’s legal commission for appointments and immunities will propose ex-minister Vasile Botnari for director of the Security and Intelligence Service for a five-year term in one of the legislature’s next sittings.
