Three teams that include Moldovan players were eliminated from the quarterfinals of Russia’s Cup.
Fullback Alexandru Epureanu was a reserve for Dinamo Moscow in the match that they lost away to Anji Mahacikala 0-1, IPN reports. The team from Dagestan scored the only goal of the game in overtime. The world’s highest-paid footballer Samuel Eto’o scored with a penalty. Last year, Dinamo, including Epureanu, went through to the final, but was beaten by Rubin Kazan.
Defender Igor Armas’s Kuban Krasnodar left the competition only after it was defeated by Zenit Saint Petersburg 3-4 in overtime. Kuban is now trained by Leonid Kuchuk, the former coach of Sheriff Tiraspol.
Striker Serghei Alexeev wasn’t included in the lineup of Enisei Krasnoyarsk, which was beaten by CSKA Moscow 0-3.
Halfback Alexandru Gatcan is the last Moldovan who remained in the competition. His team will fight with Terek Groznyi for a place in the semifinals on April 18.
