No major changes will be witnessed in Moldovan-Ukrainian relations following election of new Ukraine president, MP

No major changes will be witnessed in the Moldovan-Ukrainian relations. Ukraine will hold parliamentary elections this October. The development of the political situation in Moldova will also have an influence, MP of the Bloc ACUM Lilian Carp was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Expertise hour” on Jurnal TV channel.

According to him, the new President of Ukraine has now other priorities than establishing relations with someone from Moldova. “For him, it is now important to strengthen the power after the legislative elections as a President without a parliamentary majority can do nothing and he could indeed remain a puppet and have free time to continue to work for TV channels,” stated Lilian Carp. If the new President does not have this majority, the relations between Ukraine and Moldova will be floating.

“Our Party” vice president Ilian Cașu said the citizens in Ukraine, as in Moldova, are sick and tired of the corrupt and captured state and the message is to try and obtain a replacement of the regime in Moldova by authentic democratic mobilization of the people, by elections as this is possible. “At the end of his speech on his victory, Zelenskiy said “We are a model for the post-Soviet states”. Yes, this is possible,” stated the politician.

The head of the Association of Ukrainians in Moldova Mihail Bagas said Volodymyr Zelenskiy said nothing about the Transnistrian region and the Republic of Moldova in the election campaign. He didn’t speak about his views or plans. But the Ukrainian people have big expectations of the new President.

Andrei Donică, president of the Professionals’ Movement “Speranța-Nadejda”, noted it will be very hard if the new President of Ukraine disappoints the people. The example of the Ukrainian actor can be followed by other potential politicians as this is a successful one.

Comedian Volodymyr Zelenskiy won the presidential runoff held in Ukraine on April 21. According to the Central Election Commission of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskiy polled over 73% of the ballot, which is about 12.5 million votes. His rival, ex-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko gained over 24% of the vote. More than 2% of the ballots were invalidated.
