The voting process in the presidential election and the national constitutional referendum began without incidents, chairwoman of the Central Election Commission Angelica Caraman said at a press briefing, IPN reports.

According to the CEC head, 2.7 million voters are included in the basic voter rolls and are expected to go the polls today. All polling stations, including the 30 intended for voters from the left bank of the Nistru, work without hindrances. At this ballot, a significant number of young people – over 40,000 – are expected to vote for the first time. Angelica Caraman said that this is a signal of the involvement of the young generation in the decision-making process.

The polling station in Japan was the first station to open its doors to voters. The voting process there started at 07:00 a.m. according to local time and at 01:00 a.m. Chisinau time. At the same time, the voting process is underway in China, Azerbaijan, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Israel and other countries.

Citizens eligible to vote, both in the country and abroad, can vote on the basis of the identity card of the citizen of the Republic of Moldova, which confirms the domicile or temporary residence of the voter on the territory of the polling station. Also, citizens can vote with the temporary identity card, with mentions about the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova, the domicile or temporary residence of the holder, or with the passport of the citizen of the Republic of Moldova, including with an expired period of validity.

Angelica Caraman said that over 25,000 electoral officials and over 2,000 national and international observers accredited by the CEC are overseeing the voting process. “The Central Election Commission will strictly monitor the correct conduct of the ballot and will penalize any attempt to violate the norms,” noted the CEC head.
