No cases of reinfection with COVID-19 have been confirmed in Moldova so far, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection said in a response to an inquire made by IPN.

According to international scientific data, not many cases of reinfection have been reported in the world by now. “This necessitates the sequencing of the SARS CoV-2 virus on the first infection and the sequencing of the genome on the second infection,” the Ministry noted in its response.

Information about the possible reinfection with SARS CoV-2 in Moldova appeared after Minister of the Interior Pavel Voicu said that he got infected with COVID-19 again. The minister informed about his infection at the start of May, about two months after the reporting of the first case of COVID-19 in Moldova. He then wrote on his Facebook page that he had a mild form of the disease.

“To prevent the appearance of inaccurate press reports, I want to confirm that I was yesterday confirmed with a mild form of COVID-19. My hospitalization wasn’t necessary and I’m now self-isolating at home. My state of health is satisfactory,” says the minister’s message of May 2.

In five months, the minister informed that he was hospitalized and his test for the novel coronavirus is positive.

“In September, I discovered a health problem that suddenly weakened my immune system. For this reason, I became susceptible to the infection with COVID-19. Last week, after doing a test, I was confirmed with the novel coronavirus. I’m in the intensive care unit ad I’m receiving treatment. My state of health improved and I hope I will soon return to work,” Pavel Voicu posted on October 11.
