Nistru water is not fit for irrigation during the day
The water of the river Nistru in the northern part of the country up to Soroca town is good for irrigation only at night, while from Soroca up to Dubasari – in the morning as well. According to the first vice director of the State Hydrometeorlogy Service Ilie Boian, the water in the Nistru comes from the Carpathian Mountains, from a great depth. It is very cold and does not manage to become warm in the morning so that it could be used for irrigation in the afternoon, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“If we use cold water for irrigation, we damage the crops. The Nistru water is not warm enough,” Ilie Boian told a news conference. During the day, the water of the Nistru is fit for irrigation only from Dubasari towards southern Moldova.
Ilie Boian also said that the problem can be solved by building special reservoirs, where the water could accumulate and warm up.
The Nistru flows through Moldova for 398 kilometers, separating the bulk of Moldova's territory from Transnistria.
