The key to the Transnistrian conflict is in Moscow. At the same time, there is no political will to resolve this dispute in the Republic of Moldova. Such opinions were stated by veterans of the 1991 Nistru war, IPN reports.

Nistru war veteran Mihai Tomachinski, lieutenant-colonel in reserve, said at the start of the war there was no wish to follow a peaceful path, but the war could have been avoided. Now there is now wish to settle the conflict. “The solution existed then and exists now too. The problem resides in the lack of will. This problem can be solved, but not in Tiraspol, but in the Russian Federation,” the veteran stated in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel.

Veteran Iurie Coțofan, captain in reserve, said Moldova does not have even a strategy for settling the Transnistrian conflict and there is no political will to do this here. “We had many governments, but none of them fully implemented the idea of resolving the dispute. Others didn’t even initiate the process. I think it is more convenient for them to manage the country this way,” he noted.

Veteran Gheorghe Slutu, colonel in reserve, said a common organization of all the veterans should be constituted, no matter who these fought for on the battlefield. “In 1991, 1992, when we fought in the trenches, we weren’t divided according to political or other kinds of criteria. We were all the same,” stated Gheorghe Slutu, adding attempts were made to do this, but unsuccessfully.
