Nistru war veterans condemn tactics of solving Transnistrian conflict

The National Union of Veterans of the War for Moldova’s Independence considers that one of the main causes of the lack of progress in settling the Transnistrian conflict is the methodological, tactical and strategic mistakes made by the Moldovan authorities in time, IPN reports, quoting a press statement issued by the Union.

The statement says that in 1996-2009, Chisinau showed an impressive flexibility, making a set of serious and courageous concessions that, consequently, undermined the positions at the negotiating table. The measures taken to build confidence between the two banks of the Nistru advantage rather the separatist regime.

“We, the Nistru war veterans, assess that the current peacekeeping operation in Moldova has a negative impact on the settlement process, hampers the efforts to peacefully resolve the conflict and leads to the cementing of the separatist regime and, implicitly, to the perpetuation of the country’s territorial division. The military factor of the Transnistrian conflict represents defiance of the national and regional security,” reads the statement.

The veterans consider it is necessary to strengthen Moldova’s position in the negotiation process, including of the political class that must clearly and firmly declare that the Transnistrian conflict, as in the case of Georgia and Ukraine, is an interstate one, between Moldova and Russia.

The National Union of Veterans of the War for Moldova’s Independence say they will support the authorities’ efforts to remove the threats posed by the military factor of the Transnistrian conflict and to overcome the Transnistrian crisis.
