Economic diplomacy is one of the central objectives on the foreign policy agenda of the Republic of Moldova in 2022. “Our efforts will be aimed at strengthening the institutional capacities of the Ministry, intensification of communication with business entities, especially in the promotion of the export of products made in Moldova and attraction of investment and promotion of tourism,” Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, stated in a meeting with representatives of the national associative agrifood sector, IPN reports.
The meeting was held as part of the “4D (European Development. Dialog. Diaspora. Economic Diplomacy) agenda of diplomacy of concrete deeds. “The openness of the Ministry’s team and of the diplomatic missions of our country abroad will be maximally demonstrated to facilitate the Moldovan products’ access to foreign markets. It is very important that the diplomatic service should promote foreign trade as exports support jobs, increase production and investment in our country,” stated Nicu Popescu, being quoted in a press release.
The interlocutors exchanged opinions about the main problems faced by the associative community of the Republic of Moldova, including the exiting barriers to the export of Moldovan products, and invited representatives of the business community to signal their necessities whenever necessary.
“In the context of the visits I made abroad and the response visits paid by foreign counterparts to the Republic of Moldova, in the nearest future we will set a mechanism of cooperation and preliminary consultancies so as to facilitate our exports abroad to identify new markets and to attract foreign investment, including by a series of videoconferences between ambassadors and expert associations,” stated Nicu Popescu.
The meeting involved representatives of the Fruit Producers and Exporters Association “Moldova- Fruct”, the National Baking and Milling Association, the Employers Association of Poultry Breeders, the National Association of Milk and Dairy Producers “Lapte”, the ice-cream company “Sandriliona” and others.
