Nicu Popescu: It is essential to fight human trafficking

It is essential to prevent and combat trafficking in human beings, especially on the borders of the Republic of Moldova. We must take care primarily of children and women who face a high risk of trafficking and exploitation, said Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, who chaired the first meeting of the National Committee for Fighting Trafficking in Human Beings this year, IPN reports.

The official underlined the importance of preventing human trafficking, especially in the context of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and the presence of Ukrainian refugees in the Republic of Moldova.

The Committee examined and approved the national plan for implementing the policy to prevent and combat trafficking in persons for 2022 and considered the concept of the new policy document on the prevention and combating of trafficking in human beings.

At the end of the meeting, the participants approved the nominal composition of the group of national anti-trafficking experts, DIREX, who will be involved in the organization and staging of the first national simulation-based training on combating trafficking in persons in the Republic of Moldova.
