Nicu Popescu in Brussels: Messages of European partners show they are ready to help

The messages transmitted by the European partners of the Republic of Moldova revealed full availability to support the country to do reforms, said Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, who is on a working visit to Brussels. In the European capital, the official had a series of meetings that centered on the intensification of cooperation with the European Union and the monitoring of the implementation of the agreements reached during Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița’s visit, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.

The meeting with European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi focused on the preparations for the meeting of the Moldova – EU Association Council that was set for October 28. In the projected event, there will be emphasized the priority actions that are to be taken by the Republic of Moldova for achieving the objectives set for implementing the Association Agreement with the EU.

“The messages transmitted by the European partners revealed their readiness to support our country to do reforms. It is important to make use of this openness, including by the exemplary mobilization of all the concerned institutions. The period for fulfilling the commitments undertaken in relation to the EU coincides with the mandate received by the Government from the citizens, which can only facilitate our European course,” said Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu.

In the discussions with Katarína Mathernová, Deputy Director General for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, and Michael Siebert, Managing Director for Russia, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia, Regional Cooperation and OSCE of the European External Action Service, the officials considered the optimal method of implementing the Economic Recovery Plan and the prospects to launch thematic dialogues at the upper level.

Nicu Popescu also met with Fernando Andresen Guimaraes, Diplomatic Adviser to the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

In the discussions, the sides also considered possibilities of accessing macro-financial assistance, the situation in the energy sector and other topical issues from the domestic and foreign agenda of the Republic of Moldova.
