President Nicolae Timofti rejected five candidates proposed by the Supreme Council of Magistrates for the post of judge. These persons earlier worked at the Bender Appeals Court and were to be transferred to other courts of law, IPN reporters.
According to the presidential press service, the head of state established that these persons do not meet the requirements laid down by the Law on the Status of Judge. Nicolae Timofti opposed appointing Mihail Antonov and Nicolae Nogai as judges at the Comrat Appeals Court, Aurelia Parpalac – at the Cahul Appeals Court, and Grigore Drugus and Svetlana Leu – at the Chisinau Appeals Court.
In a letter sent to the Supreme Council of Magistrates, the head of states says the information presented to him by the competent institutions reveals problems related to the integrity of these judges and arouses reasonable suspicions as to the quality of the judgments passed by them.
The Bender Appeals Court was liquidated in summer by a Parliament Decision.
