Nicolae Olaru to serve as unaffiliated MP

The next substitute candidate on the list of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova Nicolae Olaru on May 5 announced that he will serve as an unaffiliated MP, IPN reports.

Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu informed that the Constitutional Court validated the seat of the substitute candidate on May 5.

In the May 5 sitting of the legislature, Nicolae Olaru said he will support initiatives and bills that promote the European course of Moldova and that will be for the benefit of the country and its people.

Nicolae Olaru’s seat was validated by the Constitutional Court at the suggestion of the Central Election Commission, which earlier today decided to assign the seat vacated by Liliana Palihovici to the next substitute candidate.

Former deputy minister of agriculture Nicolae Olaru was investigated over the appropriation of about 30 hectares of land in Stauceni, which belongs to the National College of Vine and Wine, together with other functionaries. Now that he became an MP, he will enjoy parliamentary immunity. According to prosecutors, Nicolae Olaru could be yet investigated if the prosecutor general requests to withdraw his immunity and his request is granted by Parliament.
