NGOs urge boycotting political parties

Moldova does not need political parties that would promote the people’s interests. The delegation of representatives from every settlement to work in the government is the most appropriate method, considers Ruslan Popa, the leader of the Civic Union for Direct Democracy. According to him, Moldova is the poorest country in Europe, with former oligarchs as current MPs.

“We must vote not the political parties, but a representative from the village. This way we will choose directly the person, not the political party,” Ruslan Popa said in a news conference at IPN.

The Civic Union for Direct Democracy is holding a series of news conferences to explain why the people should not vote for parties in general and for candidates in particular. In a news conference two days ago, Ruslan Popa provided arguments against the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM). Today, he focused on the Democratic Party (PDM). He said that this party does not promote the democratic doctrine. The PDM’s work program and political decisions are dictated by first deputy chairman Vladimir Plahotniuc, while the party’s leader is his marionette. The members of the PDM manage a number of ministries and state institutions, while the policies pursued by them are to the people’s detriment. “More than 40,000 pensioners die annually in Moldova mainly because of the deficiencies and low pensions. These deaths are due to the administration of the PDM,” stated Ruslan Popa.

According to him, another argument against the PDM is the fact that the party’s members and affiliates include controversial persons, such as MP Valeriu Guma, who was sentenced to jail in Romania, ex-prosecutor general Valeriu Zubco, and Vlad Plahotniuc. As the PLDM, the PDM repeatedly formed coalitions with the Communist Party. This fact is described as betrayal of the coalition partners.

The Union’s members said all the information about the political parties and their leaders was obtained by opinion polls and studies carried out by the organization and they assume responsibility for them.

Ruslan Popa repeatedly called on the people not to take part in the demonstration scheduled by the government coalition for November 3 as this is a meeting of shame. He also said he possesses evidence that public functionaries are forced to participate in this event, being threatened with dismissal.
