The NGO Izvorul Speranței is asking fellow organizations and the general public to join its “people’s control” initiative, a platform designed to exercise citizen oversight over governmental activities.
Dina Carpinschi, leader of Izvorul Speranței, declared during a press conference on Friday that “people’s control is needed today more than ever, when our rights are more and more often violated by a government that controls all state agencies”.
“Transparency and accountability are fundamental to the fight against corruption and abuse of power. Also, people’s control is an important instrument for uniting society, but also for promoting the rights and interests of citizens. Through people’s control, citizens can express their concerns and defend their rights and interests”, said Carpinschi.
Activist Sergiu Ungureanu believes that “people’s control” should serve as an instrument to “stop the violations that take place in society today”.
Adrian Domentiuc, leader of the Haiducii NGO, said that in any country there must be a balance, but Moldova lacks it, and without this balance there is no future. In his opinion, regardless of political ambitions, all those who want changes in society must unite around the “people’s control” initiative and check the current government.
