A new type of road surface marking, dubbed the “red carpet”, is applied in the busiest intersections in Chisinau. According to the City Hall, these markings are applied on the road in front of pedestrian crossings.
Red carpets are distinguished by their striking color, designed to attract the attention of drivers long before they reach the pedestrian crossing. These markings are made of a special material with an abrasive surface that helps reduce braking distance, giving drivers additional reaction time.
The first such markings have already been applied on the streets Cuza Vodă, Sarmizegetusa, Miron Costin, and Branistii. Soon, they will also be applied on Decebal Boulevard, which is currently undergoing rehabilitation, but also on other important streets in the city, such as Mircea cel Bătrân Boulevard and Ion Pelivan Street, where the necessity of applying this type of marking is being considered.
