New trolleybuses will run in Chisinau after Easter

The first 20 trolleybuses brought from Minsk will begin to travel on routes in Chisinau after Easter, not before the paschal holidays, as Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca promised earlier. The Chisinau administration blame the Parliament for the delay as it has not yet examined the bill to exempt these units of transport from import duties, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Open a museum for these trolleybuses if we cannot set them to work. If the residents of Chisinau cannot use them, they could at least look at them,” Dorin Chirtoaca said, addressing the head of the Chisinau Electric Transport Division Gheorghe Morgoci. The bill was to be passed by Parliament on April 15, but the meeting was adjourned as the quorum was not present. It is not yet known if the MPs will accept to exempt the trolleybuses from import duties and put a zero VAT on them. The Chisinau administration bought 102 trolleybuses from the Belarusian plant Belkommunmash within a project to modernize the public units of transport in the municipality of Chisinau. The next batch of 20 trolleybuses will be brought to Chisinau in two weeks.
