New traffic rules make divers more disciplined, police
“The new traffic rules and the Code of Administrative Offences produce results,” said Ghenadie Palii, head of the Traffic Police Division. The fine for traveling with the seatbelt unfastened was increased from 20 to 400 lei and now about 90% of the stopped drivers are buckled, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The cases of driving under the influence have considerably decreased in number. The number of road accidents in June this year fell by 15.5% compared with the same month of last year. The number of persons killed in traffic accidents dropped by one fifth, while of injured persons – by 11%, the quoted source said.
More than 1,500 cases of speeding and 1,195 cases of traveling unbuckled were reported after the new Code of Administrative Offences came into force on May 31, 2009. There were drawn up over 7,800 reports. The police are now examining 144 cases of driving under the influence.
