New time limits for completing repair works on Chisinau-Ungheni-Sculeni road

Works to rehabilitate the Straseni-Bahmut segment of the Chisinau – Ungheni – Sculeni road will be 90% carried out this year, while on the road bypassing Ungheni town, which is 8 km long, will be completed. In a meeting with representatives of the contractor OHL ZS, Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Iurie Chirinciuc said that according to the signed contracts, the works were to be 70-80% executed until now. The company yet performed only 10% of the works on a road and 12% of the works on another road.

“You received the advance from the EBRD loan and the money for the works done according to the expenditure estimates on time. I know that there is excessive bureaucracy in our country and the company needs authorizations, certificates and other kinds of documents to work. But this is not an excuse for such a low level of works during almost two years,” said the minister.

Iurie Chirinciuc urged the representatives of OHL ZS to make effort for the promises made by the company to be delivered or a media war will be waged on it and the company will be unable to work not only in Moldova, but also in other countries. He voiced hope that the company is able to complete the two projects. The negotiation of new contracts will last for about a year, but the country urgently needs good roads.

For the rehabilitation of the two road segments, the EBRD allocated €4.8 million and, respectively, €1.9 million.
