New support for victims of domestic violence. Sophia chatbot available in Moldova

The chatbot Sophia was launched in Moldova. From now on, people affected by gender-based or domestic violence will have an innovative digital tool that provides anonymous assistance. Sophia can help people gather evidence, assess their rights and find out about available support options, IPN reports.

Users can access the chatbot through the website sophia.chat.

The chatbot was developed to operate anonymously, securely, and without digital traces. It can provide quick access to essential information, local resources, and ensure a secure digital space for keeping evidence.

Sophia speaks 23 languages, including Romanian, Russian, and Ukrainian.

"This chatbot can store evidence accumulated by victims of violence in a digitized safe, which can be used later, either when you go to the police or in court. It is a tool that you can use 24/7," said Sorin Mereacre, president of East Europe Foundation.

"Violence against women and domestic violence is a serious violation of human rights and it has no borders. This is not the first time that Sweden joined efforts with the Swiss Cooperation Office and I am very glad that we are also involved in this important initiative," said Karin Borovic, of the Embassy of Sweden.

The launch of Sophia chatbot in the Republic of Moldova was possible thanks to the partnership between the Spring ACT Association of Switzerland and East European Foundation. The implementation of this initiative is financially supported by Sweden and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

Sophia is recognized internationally. It became the winner of the "Women in Tech Europe Awards" competition and was nominated for the "Women in AI Awards 2024".
