New minister of environment appointed

President Nicolae Timofti named Valentina Tapis as Minister of the Environment by a presidential decree. She will occupy the post of her former superior Gheorghe Salaru, at the suggestion of Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and at the request of the Liberal Reformist Party, IPN reports.

Valentina Tapis was sworn in at the State Residence on June 6. She is 50, is married and has a child. She earlier worked at the State Ecological Inspectorate and the Municipal Ecological Fund. The last position she held was that of Deputy Minster of the Environment.

The Liberal Reformist Party withdrew its political support for Gheorghe Salaru following faults identified in the process of implementing the planned environmental policies.
