By the end of February, the Ministry of the Interior will submit a plan of action on the reorganization of the system and the new ministerial apparatus to the Government. The new Minister of the Interior Alexei Roibu criticized the performance of the police employees on Friday. “An extensive reorganization is needed. Many employees will be dismissed as we need an effective system,” the official said in a summing up meeting that was attended by Prime Minister Vlad Filat as well, Info-Prim Neo reports. Alexei Roibu said the reorganization steps promised until now were not taken. The created bodies were unable to complete their tasks. Everyone wants to be a chief. The ratio of ordinary employees to chiefs now stands at 1: 6. “This state of things is due to the old mentality of the police officers. It did not change because priority is given to statistics not quality or the support provided to the people. There are cases of misconduct in office, corruption and maltreatment. The Ministry is extremely bureaucratized. This affects performance and leads to negative results,” he stated. Alexei Roibu assured he will take steady, but definite steps. There will be reviewed the structure of the Police Department and the Carbineer Department. The minister warned the police commissioners that they will be dismissed if they hide offenses in order to improve statistics. Prime Minister Vlad Filat expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that the division heads presented only reports with figures, but did not analyze the situation. When the police officers complained that the Ministry is poorly equipped, the Premier replied that the attitude is more important than the equipment. “I ask that the plan on the Ministry’s reorganization be submitted as soon as possible so that results are achieved in the near future,” he stated.
