The National Army received today a batch of military equipment from the Government of the United States of America. It consists of 29 HMMWV vehicles. The support comes in the context of strengthening the defense capabilities of the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.

These vehicles will be assigned to the soldiers of the "Fulger" Special Forces Battalion.

"With the aim of achieving interoperability, equipping with the most advanced equipment, weapons, and technology, together with our colleagues from the U.S., we launched a project in February 2023 to equip this unit with vehicles to enhance mobility and personnel protection," stated Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatii.

Daniela DiPierro, Chargé d'Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Chișinău, mentioned that in the last five years, the United States has provided $90 million in donations to modernize Moldova’s National Army.

"The $8.9 million donation reflects the generosity and commitment of the American people to enhance the security of Moldovans", said Daniela DiPierro.

The 29 armored vehicles were produced last year and were delivered to the National Army in January. The equipment was provided through the U.S. Foreign Military Financing assistance program.
