New installment of kiosks banned in Chisinau’s Historical center
The local authorities will ban the installing of new booths in the historic center of Chisinau municipality and on the main streets of the capital districts. The booths selling newspapers will make an exception.
This decision was approved on Tuesday, 11 July, by the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC), which also voted an interdiction – to sell cigarettes and drinks in the press booths. CMC also considered the banning of booths’ installment near the schools and kindergartens.
The councilor of the faction Alliance „Moldova Noastra”, chairman of the Commission for examining the situation on booths’ installment in Chisinau municipality, Oleg Cernei, stated that the already installed booths will be moved away, when their activity licenses expire. „It is not normal that those 4 newspaper booths, situated opposite to the mayoralty, ensures 80% of their incomes from selling cigarettes, beer and other drinks,” Cernei noted. He mentioned that CMC decision refers only to the historical center and main streets of the districts and guaranteed that the activity of businessmen, situated inside the districts and lateral streets, would not be affected. „They will be supported by the local public authority, as the citizens need to repair their shoes, watches, they need vegetables and fruits,” he highlighted.
Cernei also underlined that CMC empowered the mentioned commission to examine the state of the bus stops, which look “miserable”. CMC will resume the examination of this item at one of the next meetings.
There are over 2,000 booths in Chisinau municipality, 330 of them were installed illegally, fact discovered recently as result of the inspections made by the mentioned commission.
