The most important stake of the Government that is now being formed is to manage the country and to complete the implementation of reforms. Also, the politicians are aware that the Association Agreement with the EU is to be initialled at the Vilnius Summit this autumn. The topics were developed in the public debate “Culture of Government formation. What society must know, expect and demand when a new Government is formed as a result of a political crisis?”, staged by IPN News Agency.
“If they adopted the European course, they should follow it. If Moldova changes the vector as the wind blows, it will lose the foreign partners’ trust. It is important that the priorities aren’t changed,” political analyst Igor Botan said in the debate.
Ecaterina Mardarovici, executive director of the Political Women’s Club 50/50 and ex-MP, said that everyone speaks about the country’s major interest – the Vilnius Summit. “On the other hand, I think that the major interest coincides with the parties’ interest as the early elections cannot be a stake now. I believe they have wisdom and abilities and understand that everyone will be punished in the early elections. There is distrust, but everyone will only win if the Government is formed,” she stated.
Valeriu Cosarciuc, ex-negotiator and ex-minister within the Alliance for European Integration 1, believes that the stake is the preservation of seats. “I’m more maximalist and hope that they will think about the Republic of Moldova. The head of state should be a mediator and play an important role in bringing this crisis to an end. We need a government, but it should be ready to sacrifice itself. I’m sure that we will not have only one political force after the next elections. Thus, we must diminish the causes that can lead to crisis,” said the ex-minister.
Sergiu Ostaf, director of the Resource Center for Human Rights (CreDO), said the negotiations on the formation of the Government became less transparent, especially as regards the areas of responsibility. There is no communication and trust and the proposal to transfer back some of the agencies from ministries to the Government shows that they want greater autonomy for the institutions.
The public debate “Culture of Government formation. What society must know, expect and demand when a new Government is formed as a result of a political crisis?” is the 17th of the series of public debates “Development of political culture by public debates” that are organized by IPN with support from the German foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
